February 25th, 2014

As spring nears, we are moving into wedding season and out of engagement season. Between Christmas, New Years, and Valentines Day, winter is the busiest season for engagements. So if you are one of those newly engaged couples, we’d like to say CONGRATULATIONS! What an exciting time in your lives. Now that you have had a little time to celebrate your engagement, it’s time to get down to business and start planning baby! So other than the love you both share for one another, let’s chat about the most important thing when beginning to plan: BUDGET!

In the day of pintrest, it’s easy to get carried away when planning for your big day. Before you even create your “dream wedding” board, create a concrete, realistic budget. Many sites such as Weddingwire, The Knot, and Real Simple offer budget planning sheets and calculators. When you create this budget, keep in mind: date and time of your wedding, guest count, wedding location, and wedding style.

blogVGOnce you have determined your budget, here is a breakdown of where you should budget your funds:

Reception: 48%-50%
Ceremony: 2%-3%
Attire: 8%-10%
Flowers: 8%-10%
Music: 8%-10%
Photography/Videography: 10%-12%
Stationery: 2%-3%
Wedding Rings: 2%-3%
Parking/Transportation: 2%-3%
Gifts: 2%-3%
Miscellaneous: 8%
“Emergency Funds”  5%

Planning with a concrete and realistic budget in mind will make your planning process so much easier! Now go create that “dream wedding” board and start pinning!
