How to Honor a Deceased Loved One on your Wedding Day

July 25th, 2017

Special life milestones can be difficult for those who have lost loved ones, especially at weddings. In a perfect world every family member and friend could be with you on your special day, and sometimes that’s just not reality. If you have someone that you wish could be present at your nuptials, but physically they can not be there, there are several ways you can honor their spirit. Guests will love knowing who you are honoring, so be sure to let them know in your program or written near the memorial.

One way is to honor a deceased loved one is through a reading. Like this one written by an unknown author:

Someone is missing…
Let this be a loving reminder that someone is missing today.
Someone our hearts still hold onto,
As we travel along life’s way.
Someone who made life special,
For all who gather here.
Someone who won’t be forgotten,
But cherished from year to year.
And now as we all pause to remember,
Let us all fondly recall,
How dearly each of us loved them,
and oh how they loved us all.

You could also have a special song played. Like Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton:

Lastly, you can have something physical at the wedding to honor their spirit, such as a candle, picture, or special memento. Need some ideas? Check out our inspiration below.
