In her lifetime, Melissa had only known one true love, her high school sweetheart. This love tragically ended in 1999 when the father of her two beautiful children suddenly passed away in a car accident. Melissa’s son suffered from Asperger’s, Muscular Dystrophy, and Depression and more times than she’d like to admit, her son’s needs negatively affected most personal relationships she had attempted.

Melissa met Steve (her current fiancé) while out with friends when Steve was mistakenly sitting in her seat. They got to talking, and Steve made the first move, asking for Melissa’s number. She agreed, but gave Steve one condition: Melissa made Steve promise not to fall in love with her. But over the following weeks and months, this friendship quickly developed into a relationship, leading to Steve taking Melissa and her children in, without any hesitation.

In March 2017, Melissa and Steve’s relationship was pushed to its limits when tragedy struck, and Melissa’s son suddenly passed away. Some would think a situation like that could tear a relationship apart, but for this couple, it confirmed they are capable of handling anything together.

Every story should have a happy ending, right? Steve and Melissa quickly realized that their love could withstand whatever life threw at them, and they became engaged at the end of  September with no wedding date in sight.
