To Pinterest or Not to Pinterest – That is the Question

Let me start with this. . . . thank GOODNESS Pinterest was not around when I got married 7 years ago!

On one hand, I am so envious of all you brides (and grooms) out there who have Pinterest at your fingertips to use as a planning tool for your wedding. On the other hand, I feel awful that many of you will feel badly if your wedding doesn’t live up to “Pinterest Perfection.” It’s like a double edged sword. . .

So, should you use Pinterest to plan your wedding or not? I don’t think there is a black and white answer for this one. If you are the type of person who can take inspiration from others and modify it to fit your wedding needs, then I say go for it! But if looking at Pinterest weddings makes you feel sick to your stomach in dread that your day won’t look anything like the picture perfect weddings you see, then don’t do it. . . you don’t need the extra stress, believe me.

If you do decide to use Pinterest to gather inspiration, here are 3 tips to help you stay in check and not be overwhelmed:

  • Create specific boards (ex. dress, flowers, food) instead of just one board for “wedding.” This will help narrow your focus.
  • Instead of only following the BIG wedding names (ex. Style Me Pretty) check out other pinners wedding boards, they may provide you with more realistic inspiration.
  • Limit your time. Do not allow yourself to spend hours upon hours pinning. . . this is a sure way to drive you batty.

Hope these help you navigate Pinterest on your pinning journey!

Happy Planning!
